In the wet subtropics palms thrive! Their tall straight trunks are the perfect host for lichens and mosses. I loved the beautiful patterns formed by palm trunks and their lichens, and tried to photograph many examples, all the while having to hurry to keep up with my partner, and cope with low-light conditions. Here are some of the results! Aren’t those mosses gorgeous? Stripes and patches…. and then there are the other patterns palms make with their fronds … and fruits
vines and canes climb the palms too …. and different palms make gracious patterns with their leaf and trunk angles …
Thanks to Frizz for prodding me to post a PPP story … pop over for a peek at the P’s 🙂
Such a lovely corner of the world….we’re blessed with so much beauty here in Oz!
and the country is so large we hardly see a fraction of it!
And isn’t that so true. I certainly hope to explore much more of it over the next twenty or so years.
Love your PPP’s! As a tree lover I cannot but rejoice!
hurray for trees, full of wonder 🙂
Ah, palms, especially palm trunks, are among my favorite trees. These images are really interesting. A good variety too.
George, did you see the birds … I thought of you when we were there https://dadirridreaming.wordpress.com/2013/10/07/kuranda-birdworld/ … today I have my 4 year old granddaughter here playing with the toy macaw, and we discovered it is the same as the one that was chewing S’s hat. She thinks that is very funny!
Very pretty. Living in more northern climates, we don’t see palm trees often. Thanks for posting your PPP’s M
you are welcome M, thanks for popping by so I could check out your blog too 🙂
you made me smile with your
“pop over for a
peek at the P’s”!
always glad to bring a smile 🙂
You have shown us some ingesting patterns. I loved scrolling through your collection.
thanks Colline, I guess you don’t have palms in Toronto?
I have not seen one. They do have them in Sou Africa though – and they abound in Mauritius.
yes, of course they do … I forgot about this connection of yours 🙂
I love the way patterns are universal – when you look at these photos you can easily imagine them as something else – the palm fruits at beads or colourful dreadlocks, the fronds as feathers, the vines as criss crossed rope or slithering snakes 🙂
I love to see that universality … Nature has her patterns and reuses the successful ones over and over again 🙂 …fronds as feathers, mmmm 🙂
I especially love the last two photos; such interesting patterns and textures!
you can just imagine me walking along and stopping every few steps to look at these wonders 🙂 thanks for your appreciation Angeline!
Beautifully done Christine! I can imagine you stopping to photograph them and I would have done the same 🙂
thanks Gilly …this photography bug can be troublesome at times!
The palm fruits are like bead curtains 🙂
I was fascinated by them, lucky to be there at the right time 🙂 Do you remember those beaded purses or handbags we had in the late 60’s?
No, much too young, Christine! (chortle! chortle!) 🙂
we were watching The Thomas Crowne Affair a few nights ago .. made in 1968 I think, but I did recognise the beaded bag!
So green and beautiful! I love this post, Christine 🙂
Lovely captures, Christine. 🙂
questi particolari rendono sempre più affascinante il viaggio!
grazie cara, sarebbe davvero splendido farlo insieme!!!!!
🙂
These details make the journey more fascinating!
thanks dear, it would be really wonderful to do it together!!!!!
If you ever come to Australia we could have some wonderful adventures!
