What could be simpler than an anthill? Ruth has asked us to focus on the uncomplicated this week, with her travel theme of simplicity. My images are all from the Kimberley trip, so you will notice the red earth and rock in most of them. Sometimes the largeness of the scenery was too much for me, so I often focussed in on details, finding my peace and stillness in simple things.
These rosella flowers were growing by the side of a small waterway on Mt Elizabeth Station. Striking aren’t they?
Grasses and leaves, rock patterns, ripples and reflections were some of my favourites … here is some gorgeously spiralling grass, growing beside spinifex underneath sheltering gums and wattles.
These tall spear grasses at Mirima, Kununurra make a strong pattern with their warm colours. 
Peeling bark on this Salmon Gum at Nitmiluk is making way for the new, shedding bright orange strips and curls onto the ground below.

Those rosella flowers are striking! Although a simple looking flower, the rich red color just grabs your eyes begging for attention. Great collection for the theme. 😀
i was also surprised by how big they are, not obvious here, but amongst tiny desert blooms they stand out 🙂 thanks for your lovely words sunshine 🙂

I’ve often thought that about Oz – the vastness can be quite overwhelming. Also, it’s in the detail that I get the stories of the landscape – that sere, minimalist landscape yields such fascinating details, like the spiral grass and the wonderful peeling bark – and the people who came, as you have here with the Rosella. Terrific shots, Christine – I can almost smell the place. 🙂

I think I would be quite interested in observing an ant hill, Christine. So simple, yes, but I presume rather complex, too. What a great reminder to not stop noticing the small things when we’re focusing on much grander horizons. I’m sure you were so pleased not to have missed these beauties! 🙂
