This week’s challenge from Frizztext is the letter O, which brings to mind the orchids we saw in Singapore last week. There are fabulous new gardens in Singapore, the billion dollar Gardens by the Bay, which are quite incredible. However the older Singapore Botanic Gardens has a wonderful orchid collection, billed as the largest tropical orchid collection in the world, so my photos are from both places. We were there on the homeward leg of our long trip, taking it easy, enjoying the warmth after Europe, tasting the food and taking in some of the beautiful sights.

Orchids are fascinating, aren´t they? So unusual that they almost look unreal.
Lovely photos, Christine.
Breathtaking! I love the last green and white one, and remember seeing the golden yellow variety in KL. The Gardens by the Bay didn’t really cost a billion dollars did they?
i think they admit to $773,000,000 …. the talk around the town is of a billion dollars 🙂 and it is only half built …. !!!
I agree with Marianne. Orchids are so fascinating with their bizarre shapes and unreal colors, patterns. Many look like sea creatures found in coral reefs. I love these shots, Christine.
thanks doug, it was such a treat, shame i only had my little ixus with me, but i chose it to travel with as it is so small and light …. some of the macros did not work, but others are fine 🙂
How beautiful! I was in an orchid garden only once, but I was amazed at all the differences! Great pictures. 🙂
Beautiful flower and nice choice for the challenge. I love how you showed us the different colors of them.

hello dear Barb! according to the brochure there are over 1000 species and 2,000 hybrids in the collection at the Singapore Botanic Gardens .. they began collecting 1928!
I love orchids! I’ve always wanted to grow them myself, but I’m a plant killer so I leave them in peace. Great shots.
