Bluey the Budgerigar

Budgerigars are small parakeets that have lived wild in outback Australia for about five million years. In recent history they have become very popular pets, endearing themselves to humans because they are small, pretty, sociable, talkative and entertaining.

Our grandson is minding Bluey while his owners are overseas. Early this morning (having stayed overnight) I joined in the budgie playtime, when Bluey comes out of his cage free to fly around the room and explore as much as he likes. Thomas was in bed playing interactive games with his school friends on the world wide web.

playing on the world wide web!

Scarlet helped to tempt Bluey out of his cage, which was on top of the shelves.

Bluey likes his cage, and his toys, so bringing a toy out encourages him to step out for some exercise.

Bluey’s cage, his kingdom!

He likes to climb on Thomas, sometimes to nibble him gently!

bird on the shoulder!

Scarlet wanted Bluey to sit on her too, but since she has pet rats Bluey was not so keen. Well I don’t know that it was the rats who are also lovely, but he preferred Tom.

When Bluey took off for a wing-stretching flight Tom went back to his computer friends, so Bluey landed on the floor, rolling his bell back and forth and tipping it over.

We were visiting the family to celebrate my birthday yesterday. My d-i-l cooked an amazing meal of Duck Ragout Lasagna  followed by Goat’s Milk Chocolate Ice-cream and Raspberry Pavlova. It was a very happy birthday indeed, the TYO sent me a vivid computer drawing of my virtual party, and the son in France phoned…. all just perfect!

    • thank dear gilly, it promises astrologically to be a family oriented year, not sure how that will pan out, maybe another grandchild will arrive, or we will just spend more time with those we have …. every day is an adventure, thanks for your good wishes 😀

  1. Bluey, and your grandchildren look like real characters and have great affection for each other 🙂 What a wonderful birthday, and dinner – yum. All the best.

  2. Happy birthday to you, Christine. That meal must have made it really worth being a year older. 🙂 That budgie brought back memories of the ones I had as a child. We taught him to say nursery rhymes.

  3. Happy Day After Your Birthday, Christine. I’m a Leo, too, and will celebrate mine on the 20th, but I’ve given up getting any older. Love the pictures of the grandkids. Have Tom suggest to the owner of the bird that he have his color vision checked. Seems the parakeet veers toward green instead of blue. A name change might be in order. 🙂

  4. What a name for Bluey (or Limey per Doug). Budgeriger! I couldn’t begin to pronounce it! Beautiful pictures of your beautiful grandchildren. They are at that golden age of innocent childhood.

    • thank you barb, it was a happy birthday! 🙂 indeed i was quite spoilt by such a lovely dinner with the family all about …. and the absent ones were in touch too!

let's chat about this ...
