Lord Howe Currawong

Lord Howe Currawong

We met this curious bird when a pair of LHI Currawongs followed us on our first walk through the rainforest. Perhaps they were watching to see if we disturbed any tasty creatures, but they stayed near, swooping through the thick foliage. This photo was taken when I was close enough to lift a palm frond out of the way so that I could see the whole bird. The species is endemic to the island, and has a more slender bill and less white than the mainland Pied Currawong.
