These beautiful small grass parrots are fairly common in the Central West. We first saw them sitting on a wire in rainy overcast weather. Next day when the sun was shining we found a group of males feeding in grass by the side of a small dirt road. The male Red-Rumped Parrot has bright colours and a clear red patch on his rump, the female is paler, has no red patch, and can be almost colourless. Despite further sightings I could not capture them clearly again! This will remain a challenge for another trip.
We are enveloped and drenched in the marvelous, but we do not see. Baudelaire
Thee’s a lot of grass around – been wet all over, has it? I’m just dropping you a line to say how much I always enjoy your posts – real nostalgia trips – and to comment on the photograph of the red dumped parrot almost hidden among the silvery eucalypt foliage – it could almost be an Impressionist painting.
yes, a lot of rain …are you australian? so glad you like the posts! those colours are mesmerizing, just gorgeous in the aussie landscape 😀 thanks so much for letting me know your thoughts, encouragement always welcome!
Yea – I’m an Australian (deeply attached to the land if not always so convinced of the nation, if you know what I mean?), presently living in Sri Lanka, where the silence is just as likely to be broken by monks chanting than anything else – though we do have a lot of birds, and the monkeys visit every day … Thanks for dropping by.
It’s interesting how, even though they are brightly colored, they blend in well with the grass while they are feeding. That protects them from predators.
yes doug, it was interesting to photograph them … i was leaning against a big old gum tree by the fence … waiting patiently to catch a glimpse of them in the grass … they were mostly invisible!
All great captures! Love the one with the caption, “red-rumped parrot on low tree beside the road”. 🙂
They are so pretty
Oh wow sweetie! You are so blessed! I wish we had them around here! I would just sit all day long and just take photo’s..heheheh
These are stunning shots hon! Thanks so much for sharing. 🙂
*big hugs*
thank you sonel, i must admit i am already planning another trip out there and taking a folding chair to sit and photograph them!
I love the first one without title the best. Soft pastels blending together and a little more abstract. How does everything stay looking so clean down there?
they are so pretty, someone said it looked like an impressionist painting …. those bright colours blended together 🙂 i have some more lovely birds to share during the week!
Nice images! How can you spend too much time blogging? If you spent less time blogging, you might find yourself doing uninteresting things. You should make the most of the things you enjoy, Christine. You know I’m right! Blogging is an ideal medium to help a person’s focus on the important things. 🙂
ha! you might be right mike!!! in fact you are right about helping a person’s focus, i am finding it a big creative adventure and a whole new stream of interest …like planning trips to find birds 🙂
There you go, then! Blogging is creative time well spent. 🙂
Beautiful photos, and a great quote! 🙂
thanks for visiting nandini, glad to share our aussie beauty with you 🙂
how gorgeous a bird, how marvelous nature is.
I’m a Baudelaire fan, nice quote.
Beautiful images! Love the colours against the foliage! It is the start of mango season here and I see a lot of little parakeets gorging themselves from my kitchen window!
sounds gorgeous madhu, can you photograph them???
They’re so tiny … and cute 🙂
What beautiful birds. The only kind of parrot I see are in cages. How lucky you are to see them flying free.
BE ENCOURAGED! BE BLESSED!
