White-faced Herons

Eight White-faced Herons flew over to check out the dams, and amazingly decided to take a better look. As I watched, alerted by their gravelly voices, they landed elegantly in an old casuarina beside the house. Such tall and graceful birds looked distinctly out of place balanced on the small twiggy branches. They stayed for a few minutes and by mutual agreement took off for somewhere more suitable to roost!

  1. How unusual to see a group of Herons – usually only see one at a time. Your antennae is so finely tuned you know just when to grab camera and run!

  2. Gorgeous photos! It’s amazing that the small twiggy branches didn’t snap off underneath the beautiful herons.
