Laughing Kookaburra

kookaburra amongst the beans

Our local kookaburra is the Laughing Kookaburra (Dacelo novaeguineae), renowned for its wonderful call that sounds very like raucous human laughter. The magpies around the house are very territorial so the kookaburras have been a bit more distant in the past few years. Here one visits the vegetable garden, looking for lizards, insects or small snakes.

Then he moved to the fence post gazing out over the marsupial lawn, ready to pounce at any sign of movement from a possible meal. Aren’t the feathers beautiful!

My son and children are arriving today for a summer holiday, so I may a little absent from the blogging world until Sunday. Lots of games to play at home instead. Stay safe, well and happy, and keep on inquiring about who is having those thoughts …..
