Great Egret (Ardea alba)

The Great Egret is occasionally found on our lagoon, and rarely comes up to visit the dams. Yesterday one of these beautiful large birds flew in, landing just near the place a pair of Dusky Moorhens have chosen to nest. One of the Moorhens chased the Egret, who was standing disconsolately beside the dam when I stepped quietly outside with my camera. Despite my stealthy movements the Egret was already uneasy and I am sure it spotted me, so it flew away onto the far bank of the dam, then took off to fly back towards the lagoon.

A good traveler has no fixed plans, and is not intent on arriving.
