Weekly Photo Challenge: Faces

There are mystically in our faces certain characters which carry in them the motto of our souls, wherein he that cannot read A, B, C may read our natures.  ~Sir Thomas Browne

I have never been aware before how many faces there are. There are quantities of human beings, but there are many more faces, for each person has several. – Rainer Maria Rilke, Notebooks of Malte Laurids Brigge

I have never seen a smiling face that was not beautiful – Author Unknown

Some people, no matter how old they get, never lose their beauty – they merely move it from their faces into their hearts.  ~Martin Buxbaum

  1. The jury is still out as to whether aspects of the internal can ever really truly be read from the external. The pseudoscience of physiognomy which Sir T. Browne indulged in and developed can even be dangerous in making schemata for misjudging others, nevertheless Browne wrote a few other remarkable statements about faces, and for sure, thanks for sharing some beautiful portraits photo’s here.

  2. Thanks for your feedback Kevin, I must admit I was not thinking of physiognomy, but more of how the Self, or inner spirit of a person shines through the face. So glad you liked the portraits!
