Morning on the Beach

The beach is always beautiful, that intersection of land and sea, dwelling place for shelled creatures, fish, and birds, not to mention all the other small things that live in the sand. Sometimes wild and strong, other days benevolent, clear, peaceful. This time of year the light is changing from the harsh brilliance of summer to softer winter tones,

birds are gathering with their almost-adult young,

and seaweed is washing in to enrich the habitat.

The cautious fox pads the strand at night, sniffing for seafood treats and bird carcasses,

crabs burrow,

and the waves lap gently weaving delicate patterns on the shore.
